    Description

1857 Flying Eagle Cent, Almost Uncirculated, certified PCGS AU53.  Clashed Dies, Snow-9, FS-402.
One of the more enigmatic varieties in the Flying Eagle series, Obverse die clashed with that of a Liberty Seated Half Dollar - an interesting and widely sought-after error/variety.
Snow suggests something more than 100 pieces in total known. Oddly enough, this variety is more common in lower circulated grades and Mint State, than it is in EF or AU as a PCGS coin. 50 coins at PCGS from Good to VF-35, and 29 in Unc grades; however only 8 EF coins, with 6 in AU grades (two each AU-53, 55 & 58), when last checked.
I was not able to determine the NGC Population as they make it extremely difficult to figure out, by NOT including these in the regular Census figures, stupidly enough.  A very unusual distribution given that public hoarding of the new coins should have meant more available in lightly circulated condition, especially given that the signs of the clash are so obvious.
Obviously rarely offered in this grade, and probably a bit undervalued.
Only ONE of the PCGS AU coins has ever been through an auction, oddly enough. Given the lack of specimens and infrequent trades, this is priced at where I think it should be, rather than what PCGS "suggests" (5), a figure that is a bit silly as an unclashed AU-53 (PCGS Pop of 168) is listed as a 0 coin.
As for price, unfortunately you can thank ebay’s idiotic fee regime which is costing me about 12% – I am more than happy to sell for less under different circumstances.
I am happy to combine shipping for multiple items – for best service please use the ebay Shopping Cart feature and ASK FOR A COMBINED INVOICE before payment, or contact me for a quote.
I ship at my actual cost for Insured First Class Mail for your protection.
Please Note: We require payment within four days of purchase, unless you contact us for other arrangements in advance of purchase. Items not paid for within 4 days will have an automatic unpaid item case opened - please do not make a purchase unless you intend to honor your commitment.  If you have any questions, please email.
Please note our hours below and if needed contact us at least 24 hours before close of listing
.  Buy or Bid with confidence: we have a heritage to 1937, and loads of good eBay Feedback, where I have been selling since 1997.
