Description
Here is an unusual and rareGreat Lakes
area, probably Iroquois or Seneca,
sinew and thread-sewn wall pocket
or purse
, beaded on canvas and red stroud with colors of light blue, greasy yellow, red white-heart, white, and royal blue
.
Measures 11" long x 4" diameter x 12" circumference and dates to the
late 19th century
.
Condition is excellent, with only very minor bead loss, and you have to REALLY look to find it
. Also a tiny bit of red stroud loss. This is f
rom the Stanley Slocum Collection, Minnesota
.
This would make a fine addition to any Native American collection!
It has been brought to my attention that this may be a hat and Naskapi in origin. Based on it's size though, it would be too small for even an infant. This could have even been made to put on a Victorian Era doll
