    Description

Antique Native American Bead Work Hair Drop.
Panel beaded with sinew on soft hide. Beads in two shades of blue, red white heart and white. There are also some reflective black beads that look like hematite, but not sure.  Metal cones with red dyed feathers attached to sides with cotton string. Beaded panel Cones with red dyed horsehair falling from red wrapped fringe at bottom. Soft hide beaded panel attached to stiffer hide with mostly sinew.
Approximate measurements: beaded strip: 11" long and width: 2 3/8" tapering to 1 7/8". Overall length: 17"
What is known of the provenance is that this was part of a collection of old Native American items . The collectors, a couple who resided near the California/Oregon border loaned their collection in 1959 to a local museum. Unknown how long museum had it. They passed in the 70s.
CONDITION: Two cones with feathers missing to left side and cones with horsehair missing to red quill wrapped fringe. Minor bead loss. Leather used to string brass beads is broken at top.  Stitching at bottom that holds the 2 leather panels together compromised. Perhaps trace of old repair with cotton. Unknown what the longer wrapped fringes at the base are supposed to look like , unsure if they are supposed to be bundled. Please study the photos as part of the description and ask any questions that you may have prior to purchasing. Thank you.
This will be safely packaged with care.
