Description
OLD APACHE BEADED VEST WITH AMAZING PROVENANCE - PLUS PHOTO OF 1ST OWNER WEARING -You are bidding on an old Apache beaded vest with spectacular historical provenance. The vest was purchased from Pat Read a famous third generation Native American trader back in the 1970's. The vest was first owned and worn by a Native American named, "Button Thomas." See the attached photo of Button wearing this exact vest taken by Pat Read in the 1920's. Also included in my last two listing photos is a postcard advertising at one of his many shops he had during his lifetime. Pat told my family he had purchased the vest from Button shortly after he took the photo and the garment became a favorite of Pat's to wear to the Gallop Ceremonial Events.
The beadwork on the vest appears to be sinew sewn and contain several pictorial figures of Thunderbirds and geometric designs. The exterior of the hand tanned leather of the vest also appears to have been stained a light yellowish color. There are a group of leather thongs in place of buttons down the center that could be used for securing the vest closed and the bottom edge of the garment is finished with fringe. I would say that the beadwork appears to be 99% intact. There is no repairs and the leather remains subtle and soft, therefore, the next lucky owner could even wear this vest.
Good luck to my winner.
Many of the artifacts I have posted on E-Bay were purchased around 40 - 45 years ago, but most are much older.
Be sure to check my other listings... as I will soon be posting a number of other Native American jewelry items as well as collectables in the coming weeks. I always combine items for saving on shipping when they can be shipped safely together. Please wait for my invoice with combined shipping costs.
CONDITION:
Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition and as part of my description. As stated above the vest appears to be sinew sewn. The beadwork seems to be 99% intact. The leather remains soft and malleable.
The entire length of vest is approximately 24 inches in length and 20 inches wide at the widest point. I guarantee you will not be disappointed, should you be the lucky winner. A copy of both the postcard containing Pat Read at his shop in Lawrence, Kansas during the 1950's will be included with the vest as well as the copy of the original photo of Button Thomas wearing this item.
