    DETAILED DESCRIPTION
    :
This auction is for a very nice strand of primitive old blue glass Padre trade beads acquired in Window Rock Arizona. The beads have lots of variations, to be expected on early 'wound glass' Padre beads. They measures approx. 7mm - 8.5mm with various depths, some are rounder, some are flatter, spin marks evident and glass inclusions (no chips or breaks). The strand is approx. 22", there are 82 beads total on their original raffia, weighs 64.0 grams.
Part of a private Native American collection. Many photos taken, starting bid is VERY LOW and there is NO RESERVE! USPS
shipping is .99 to any destination in the U.S.A..
FYI: Beads were often used as currency by people all over the world for thousands of years. Padre beads are a variety of wound glass trade beads originally imported across the world especially to Africa and the Americas by Spanish Missionaries, Monks and Traders, they have a fascinating history with the Native Americans. The Nez Perce Tribe particularly coveted the turquoise blue beads over all others because of the beautiful variation of sky blue colors. You will find great early bead work by several Native American tribes that incorporated these blue Padres beads. Early Padre beads originated from both China and Europe, they were never made in America. These wonderful Padre beads remind me of European glass Padre beads of the crow category size, generally 3/8" with lots of variations due to hand craftsmanship.
